Course Description

This course offers a 10-week intensive in Islamic philosophy as represented in the school of Mulla Sadra, better known as the School of Transcendent Wisdom (al-Hikmat al-Muta‘aliya). The course includes a basic introduction to logic and will have as its chief goal the elucidation of rational proofs for the existence of God, the human soul, as well as objective criteria for good and evil in the ethical domain. Upon completion, students will be able to discuss these Islamic philosophical doctrines and present rational arguments in their favour. The course will meet online once a week on Sundays for 10 weeks. Each class will be 60 minutes in duration, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session.
